ThirtyOne Gifts Expert Review by Brian Garvin and Jeff West

By Brian and Jeff On April 2, 2009 Under MLM-Programs-T

Home parties are becoming more and more popular these days. While people used to go to Tupperware or Avon parties a couple of decades ago, now people are going to home parties for everything from gift items to plastic surgery (Botox anyone?). The ThirtyOne Gifts parties are home parties at which Consultants sell a variety of gifts to people. These gifts range in type from handbags, to candles to kitchen items—just about anything you would ever think about buying can be purchased (or sold) at a ThirtyOne Gifts party.

The Consultants for the ThirtyOne Gifts have a chance to earn more than two hundred dollars per party and can qualify for a number of bonuses including gifts from the companies and free shipping for parties that earn more than five hundred dollars. Consultants can also earn bonuses based on the number of buying customers they get per party.

Unfortunately, the basic information of how to get started as a consultant for ThirtyOne Gifts is not listed on the website. The website also fails to list the startup costs that are involved or exactly what is involved in the compensation plan. There is, however, more information available in the product catalog.

According to the catalog, the basic way to earn money as a Consultant is to host a party in which you sell the items listed in the company catalogue to the party guests. In order to qualify for a commission, you must sell at least two hundred dollars worth of merchandise. Obviously, the more products a Consultant sells, the more he or she will earn in commission, but as the Consultant sells more products, the bonuses and gifts they qualify for increases as well.

This looks like a very straightforward opportunity: sell the items listed in the catalogue, earn a commission off of what you sell, and after your sales reach two hundred dollars you become eligible for a number of bonuses and prizes. The company looks completely legitimate and you are free to look at the product catalogue and order items for yourself even if you are not interested in becoming a consultant for the ThirtyOne Gifts Company.

Our only problem is that we could not find a compensation plan anywhere. We could not find any information that detailed now often the consultants were paid or if they just took their commission directly from the sales they made before completing the orders. We didn’t find any information about down lines either. It looks like the only way to find out any business information about this company is to contact them directly (the email address is on their website) and ask.

This certainly looks like a good income opportunity—especially for people who enjoy home wares and trinkets as gifts and have some sales ability. The company is a legitimate company who earns money by the products they sell so if you think you can sell the products you find in the catalogue, send the company an email and learn how to get started!

Hi Brian and Jeff, I am a Director w/Thirty-One Gifts and would love to email you our compensation plan. I know this is an old post but just in case you wanted it. Thanks for all the positive words about Thirty-One. You get paid commission on any sale you make, it does not have to be $200.00. Anyway, blessings!

attended a 31 party a few weeks ago…. purchased 2 items. Way over priced for average quality items. Walmart has better quality at a better price. If you need to do your shopping in someone’s home plus food & beverages enjoy the 31 experience! Just remember you are paying the hostess for the party.

I recently attended a thirty-one gifts party at the request of a friend. When I picked up my “merchandise,” 2 items were no longer available. Instead of simply not charging my credit card, I was given 2 gift certificates. I called the telephone number on the GCs to activate them, per the instructions, and was told that customer service could not help me. “But this is the number on the GC,” I said. The only reply/explanation I received was, “There’s nothing we can do.” I’m still waiting to hear from the consultant and am afraid I am out the money I paid. If you are considering this organization, beware of this underhanded practice.

Hi Beware: What you should do is go into the consultants website from the party, place an order and when the payment screen comes up, click on Gift Certificate and put in the number and amount. Be sure when you are putting in the number to put in the GC before the number too. Good luck. Sorry you had a bad experience but the company is new and is trying to improve their product quality and service. Sometimes it takes comments from customers to do it. There must be plenty of people out there that love 31 because the company was growing so rapidly that they put a freeze on new consultants. Best of luck and God Bless.

There seems to be a little misinformation in this review (I know its old, but still). Consultants don’t host parties, hostesses do. And I haven’t seen any trinkets or candles or anything but storage bags, purses, wallets, BAGS in general in their catalog or at a party. I may be mistaken, but that’s my experience. The products are not cheap–they are high-quality fabric, useful, pretty, and functional. There are occasionally problems, but isn’t that true for everything? Especially Walmart? Talk about imperfect!!

Anyway, I think Beware that if you go through the consultant you used, you will see better results.

And Lisa, I take it you’ve not been to any home parties before? Because S&H is normal for those types of parties.

And I don’t agree with the reviewers’ comment that “just about anything you would ever think about buying can be purchased (or sold) at a ThirtyOne Gifts party.” I think it is more specialized than that.

Brian and Jeff, I think this review needs tweaking. You are confusing Hostesses with Consultants, and vice versa. I think you need a little more information, and maybe talk to someone in the company, then write a new review.

Stop saying the wrong thing to your prospects.
