You really haven’t done a thorough job in finding out about Market America. I can honestly say for myself, I spent $520 dollars start up and have purchased $120 in transfer buys. This was about 5 weeks ago. I have received 3 checks in the amounts of $431.31, $1,310.46 & $641.30. I also have many transactions in the pipeline that should generate at least 100% more than the above mentioned amounts. Trust me, this is coming from a previous doubter.
Market America Expert Review by Brian Garvin and Jeff West
James Ridinger founded market America in 1992, in Greesnboro, SC. James had been involved with Amway previous to this. Market America specializes in selling Internet Marketing and brokerage products, as well as health, beauty and nutrition products, of course. Not sure what James Ridinger is up to nowdays but I’ve heard that they’ve been approached by some larger companies like Microsoft.
When I go to their main website, I am not sure what kind of marketing system Market America is. It appears that Market America distributors are able to obtain their own identical website with their name at the end after the “.com”. They market it as a “One-to-One” Marketing concept, combining the Internet with the Power of People. I then looked up their Partner Program Contact to see what it was all about.
From what I am able to observe, a Market America distributor purchases an Affiliate Partner Program and the focus is toward the distributor buying from their own website as well as building a balanced sales force. They encourage that it will be cost effective to shop from you and therefore have the savings and the convenience. This company really focuses on product sales, and recruiting people is secondary.
[phpbay]network marketing books, 6, “”, “”[/phpbay]
I’m not sure about all the details regarding the Market America payment structure, I’m sure some seasoned MA field reps will fill us in on this. This is taken from the website itself on the Partner With Us page; “For our Distributors, shopping at marketamerica.com is more than just convenient– it’s cost-effective”. Market America provides incentives and rewards to their Distributors to shop on their Web Portals, increasing the likelihood they will frequent your online store.”
As in all Network Marketing Programs, the income of the distributors at the top and to the corporations that sponsor them, come from the new sales made through a variety of products on their website and marketing channels the MLM Distributors of this company decide to employ. All of the income generated is through product sales. It’s the type of business that can generate you a very nice extra residual income if you put in the work.
The person coming into Market America will have a wonderful Website portal to get started. Market America is very concerned if their distributors sell anything or not, or whether the distributor even makes any money and are willing to help them in anyway they can.
Market America is NOT a program that will make you independently wealthy overnight. Like any business, it takes hours dedicated to it, working with your downline and retail sales force and getting them moving. But if you put in the time and effort, you can use Market America to develop a pretty healthy, sustainable residual income for yourself.

Maybe you should have attended an actual UnFranchise Business Presentation. You really can’t believe everything you read on the internet. MA is not a pyramid scheme. Google and Microsoft have partnered with us. THEY came to US. Do you REALLY think that their lawyers would have allowed those to giants to even THINK about doing business with MA if they were an ILLEGAL pyramid scheme? Do you really think that major media outlets would be crawling all over the Ridingers and heavily promoting Market America if it was just some big scam?

Wow, so I guess Walmart, Target, Bestbuy, etc are all paying into a “pyramid” scheme. lol. Why on earth would the BIGGEST RETAIL STORES pay COMMISSiONS TO MARKET AMERICA and in turn PAY OUT TO DISTRIButoRS?
The market america plan isn’t for 1000 customers. That’s a freaking headache. That’s what people want to avoid. Manage 10 – 20 customers. Expand product distribution by recruiting (Not a new concept). However, instead of being paid by percentage etc, you get paid 100% on the commissions of sales to infinity.
Learn more you “experts” before you judge anything. Keep working your 9 – 5 while people like my parents retire at the age of 45.

Ignorance can be scary. MA is the last program you will think of in terms of anyone making money from people signing up. The distributors are also focused on selling products, to the point that official forms have to be filed to prove this. Many programs out there interested only in headcounts allow spouses to sign up each other, MA does not allow this. The credibility of mlmreviewkings.com has just gone down the drain in my opinion once I have read this review.

awww i guess.. if you get into Market America you will be the biggest customer and salesman for getting nothing (no wages good for MA). It’s rly good idea if you own your business like this company. Don’t be a just customer of Market America. you are not gonna be the millionaire…

Thinker, just to educate you, yes, I can be a millionaire, and just like me, thousands of other people can. The point here is NOT to be a millionaire, but to be your own boss, to be an UnFranchised Owner. If anyone is jumping onboard thinking that they will be millionaires, then you are going in for the wrong reasons. You need to think of it as a supplemental income while you work your business into what you want it to become, and IF along the way you happen to become a Millionaire, then great, but this is not a “get rich fast” scheme, this is a business… When you purchase a Subway franchise, do you expect to become a millionaire? Is that why you purchased it? NO, you bought it because you wanted to be your own boss. Can you become a millionaire doing it? Maybe, but you will have to work hard to become one.
For all the skeptics out there, MA is not for you, you have to believe in it and get it in you in order to be successful, otherwise, move along. If you treat it as a joke, you will get nothing. If you treat it as a business, it will take you a freakin long way!
August 22, 2009
For the two uninformed reviewers (Brian and Jeff), please quit misleading people. You will never be able to comprehend MA as long as you continue to be so close minded. If you truly want to get a glimpse of what we are all about, then attend one of our semi-annual conferences, and yes, you can purchase the tickets through me.
I will be happy to meet with you and show you our business plan, but then again, I don’t know if I should waste my time on you, as you seem to be very biased against MA.
August 22, 2009
No we’re not against Market America, we had a person we worked with for about six months in our primary MLM Company. He mentioned some pretty bad things about MA which I will not repeat here. Maybe we were misinformed, but he was a larger earner in the company, like mid five figures. Then his upline made some bad moves and his entire organization fell apart within about 90 days if I remember correctly. So if things are going so great for people then we need to know, and we appreciate you informing us.
It seems now like these issues were MLM Geneaology issues and not issues with the company itself. So I did a bit more research and rewrote the review. I apologize if I was misinformed, but I only wrote the review based on what I heard from another rep and a link I received about James Ridinger.
Does anyone know what’s going on with Ridinger these days?
It seems now we have gotten the wrong picture, since there’s been a few people on here defending it, and for that I apologize.
We wish everyone the best in Market America.

Market America is NOT a pyramid scheme because the guys on top are NOT getting richer as more people sign up in their downline. The earnings for each business development center are capped so people at the bottom can share the profits THEY have generated and keep them. Of course, the early adopters from the 90′s are mostly bringing in close to 5-digit income EVERY WEEK. But their income is not fixed and doesn’t increase unless they actively recruit more partners and start more business development centers.
Depending on where you live, Brian and Jeff, you may be able to attend one of our recruit sessions where team leaders present products and share with you how the Payment Structure works.
You two should consider joining MA because of your internet background and the fact that MA is placing a big emphasis on their online business. You will be surprised how much more residual income you could make in their 2-3 year plan.
Now, please excuse me, I have appointments with potential business partners to discuss how to make myself more money in helping them making more money.

wow you guys are so fanatical. just like amway people and other pyramiders. you repeat what you are taught senselessly.

Market America’s motto is “Built on Product. Powered by People”. It wasn’t until I became a “Product of the Product” Isotonic OPC-3, a very powerful antioxidant, that I then decided to look further into the company and to become an independant distributor and Unfranchise Owner. Now I’m a true believer. I know for a fact what Isotonic OPC-3 has done for me. I suffered from Fibromyalgia for over a year. I had chronic fatique and constant pain thoughout my whole body….and then I tried Isontonic OPC-3 (after doing a 7-day detox) and two weeks later my fibro went into remission and I have more energy than I know what to do with! The majority of distributors that are succesful in their business is due to the fact that they believe in the products that they sell and they build their business by having a great desire to help others with their health and their financial freedom. What greater way to earn a living than by helping others. No one had to convince me or sell me on anything….the products and the business model does that.

SO MY AUNT HAS BEEN WITH MARKET AMERICA FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND SHE IS BRINGING IN A STEADY INCOME OF ABOUT 900$ EVERY MONTH. I HAVE BEEN TO MANY SEMINARS WITH THEM INCLUDING THE ONE HERE IN KS THAT JUST HAD J.R. THE PRES THE VP AND OTHER SPEAKERS. I THINK I AM FINALY GROWN UP ENOUGH TO REALIZE WITH TIME AND DEDICATION I CAN MAKE A LOT MORE MONEY THAN MY AUNT BECAUSE OF THE AREA I LIVE IN COMPARED WITH HER. MY BUSINESS MEETING IS SCHEDUALED FOR MONDAY AND I CAN’T WAIT!

After many many years (4) of researching Market America and watching my best friend start up her business with MA,and make $72,000.00 last year! I finally decided it was for me! I can HONESTLY say I only invested $879.00 in which I recoverd that in 4 months and I am now receiving my monthly residual checks on a regular basis. I own a gift shoppe and am in my 3rd year! NOT even close to recovering the $30,000.000 it cost me to start that up, plus I am working 60 hours a week! Market America is my future! IN my hands!! Products are amazing! The compensation plan is not like ANYTHING out there! Evaluate the business! It is worth the 30 minutes it takes! Seriously, find someone to show you the business plan! OH!! and it’s fun too!!!! THANK YOU MARKET AMERICA FOR CHANGING MY LIFE!!
July 26, 2010
I am recently approached by a friend who is involved in MA for the last couple of years. I personally think that direct marketing based on “products” is the OLD AGE. What MA offers is a “business opportunity”. The idea is actually quite simple. If you treat it as an investment, then the numbers will either encourage, or discourage, from this business. If the business is built to receive $300 a month, then your $200 minimum shopping requirement will give you a return of 150% a month. If it takes you 18 months to reach $300 a month (assume $200 a month spending + $750 sign up fee = $4400 capital investment in 18 months; not including your time and effort), you will get your money back in 3.6 years (4400 / 1200 a year).
Now based on 3.6 years of return of capital concept, WOULD YOU STILL CONSIDER GETTING INTO IT? Any successful business operation requires YEARS of operation. May restaurants and retails FAIL in the first 3 years.
Treat MA as a business. See your investment in terms of “ROI”.. then perhaps MA is the right choice for you? But for most people, MA is NOT for you. And that’s ok. Not everyone of us is expected to open retail shops and run a restaurant/fast food franchises.
PS: As long as you can convince your team members to believe in switching of “shopping habit”, that is buying from MA instead of going to Wal-Mart, then the business opportunites are there. Yes, you pay way less at Wal-Mart, but you also make Wal-Mart (and the millions of producers) rich. Why not switch your shopping habit to pay yourself and those below and above you?

For those of you suckered into this, have you never heard the psychology behind making yourself believing something, because you want to? Because you want success? Maybe there are those “success stories”, but those are just the people who told themselves that what they were doing was legitimate and that the product was truly good enough to make it work (this doesn’t mean that its reality). As a Personal Trainer, and a Nutritionist, I tell you that these products are far inferior to most things you can purchase at the GNC for less than 1/4 the price. The structure of this company is only slightly different from other Multi-level Marketing companies. A representative from MA was in my gym today, telling me about he was the sole provider for supplements for gyms all over the city of Chicago and boasting of the success of the product. When I asked him about the clubs he provided to, he mentioned 4 that I train clients at…..none of these gyms would even think of carrying this product. The 5th club is actually one that I’m an ownership partner of….we only carry good products, not this crap. What I’m trying to get across is that when you hear these people boasting of success, its to create an image of success that people are attracted to and interested in. Anyone with any experience in sales will always endorse their product 100% and make it seem like the top of the pyramid…”BEST PRODUCT” haha…this company is a very cleverly planned out scheme.
January 11, 2011
@ Smiley….
WOW I can’t believe you would make those claims…The antioxidant pill that “GNC” wanted to sell me had a bio-availability of 20% while the isotonic antioxidant that Market American sold me had a bio-availability of 90-95%…That’s not a blind belief, those are the numbers…so you can stick with your “superior” products from GNC… oh yea, and no im not a distributor “pushing” the product…im a happy customer…but im sure going to become a distributor soon…..
PS: IMO its not being psychologically “weak” when you think, and act, positively…im sure many people had to be positive and believe with all their hearts in their goals…especially when there are so many negative people like yourself….good luck

This company employs a communism-based compensation plan that is thinly veiled in transparent capitalist shrinkwrap. The way this is justified is that this creates a common economic goal between everyone in the network. I.e. when one person gets paid, so does everybody else. There’s just one problem. By the time you divide up the profit pie for everyone, you’re left with crumbs. That’s exactly what you’ll get paid – tailings of a once delectable, oven-fresh profit pie, devoured by the big dog MA kingpins.
As usual, the income claims from the distributors are downright outrageous, and they are further supported by the company throughout their publications. What they fail to mention is that these income claims are only POTENTIAL income ranges, not actual ones, but this fact becomes lost in the great sea of taboo it engenders.
January 15, 2011
Tommy, (3 posts above) I like your analysis of MA from an investment approach. One thing I’d like to add is that the basket of goods you’re purchasing from MA at $200 could be purchased from Walmart at, say, $100 (in fact, a more realistic number would be $75, but let’s give MA the benefit of the doubt here and say $100).
Now we must redo your analysis, and realize that when you are spending $200/month on your transfer buy, and earning $300/month from MA operations, you are really only breaking even. The $100 net income is cancelled off by the additional $100 cost of that basket of goods you buy each month from MA. Let’s also keep in mind that at this rate you would never recover your start up fee of $750. Now add the fact that a penny saved is worth more than a penny earned, due to taxes (money saved is after-tax money, whereas money earned is before-tax). Therefore in reality, you are incurring a loss until you start earning more than $300/month.
Now let’s compare this with a McJob, which pays $10/hour, 40 hours per week. $400/week * 50 weeks (approx) = $20,000/year. As per your example of 3.6 years, one would earn $72,000. Expenses = bus tokens to get to work = $1,000/year. ROI = 20 fold or 2000%.
An MAer’s argument may follow that the difference between MA and a McJob is that MA’s ROI is residual passive income, whereas a McJob is not. This is perhaps the biggest misconception that exists in the world of Network Marketing today. The truth is MA’s income, and MLM income in general, is NOT passive. Why? B/c you have to be ACTIVELY managing your downlines and business operations in order to keep that $300 check coming. Attrition rates in MA, and MLMs in general, are extremely high. To maintain one’s team and prevent attrition, there is much ACTIVE work involved. One cannot simply expect to retire without negative consequences on his business.
Don’t get me wrong. You CAN make money in MA. But you’ll have to be earning well over $300/month before you turn a profit. Economic profit, profit that exists over and above the opportunity cost of working a McJob in this example, is only realized when you start earning in excess of $1600 ($400 x 4 weeks) + $300 (break even money) = $1900/month.
No matter which route you take, good luck to you.

Marketamerica has great products but bad leadership. The autoship is high and high price to startup plus the presentation are super long. There lots of people pitching about this opportunity without building relationship. It is just sad in this industry.Thank you so much! = ]

Most of the comments posted here are by market america distributors or their friends and families. Of course, they are advocates for marmet america. if you are shopping on home based business, please open your mind. There are lots of companies out there. Carefully evaluate the company, system and products before making a decision.
I know most market america distributors are losing money every year. The company never publish the average income made by distributors as the data will be very disappointed. Some people are successful and the percentage of those people is really small.
MA has great training systems. Distributors are trained or brain washed at international conventions, seminars, etc. Nevertheless, many left to work for other company and are able to be successful there.
Don’t be fooled by those in the company becauses their view are biased. Do your due deligent and find something that best fits you. Market America is not for average people. On-line shopping will never relace retail. One 1% people will make really residue money and the rest are just make the 1% rich.
February 12, 2011
Hey guys, listen. I have been ma distributor for 2 years. I can prove what they said about 2 -3 year plan to build residue income and retire early is scam.
I have been working hard and recruited many distributors in my downline network. My income last year still didn’t cover the cost for the business. The true is this is not for everyone. DOn’t believe average person can do it. Not true.
JR created the plan and system. Before you show the plan to your prospect, please also show them the statistics of the drop off rates each year and the average income per distributor each year.
These are reality. No matter how good they say they are. I quit market america as i have found it a waste of my time.

Their IBV program sounds funny. It is like using coupon shopping on line to save few bucks here and there. I don’t usually use coupons when shopping. I can’t see how this IBV thing will be bigger, better, faster like what they are saying it will.

I believe the main reason why many individuals fail to make any money online is because they are still trying to sell to family and friends, instead of learning how to leverage the power of the internet and learning how to brand them selves online.

I have been with Market America for 10 years. I started this business as a single mom of 3. I wanted the business so I could stay home and raise my kids. I had tried many MLM’s and never made any money with them. After 3 years I was making $5,000 a month. I was working 10-12 hours a week. After 5 years I was making $10,000 a month. I didn’t work every night and weekend but I did work my 10 hours a week. I was able to stay home with my kids and since have remarried and my very “corporate american” husband realized that this business will get him much further than his corporate job and does this business with me.
This is residual and will pay us the rest of our lives. We get paid weekly and have not missed a weekly check in 9 years. For the people that say it is not for the average person, you are probably right. The average person doesn’t have high goals and the self-motivation to work their own hours for themselves. It isn’t that it is too difficult because it is not. I was a single mom and just had the drive to “be more”.
The difficult part for most people is tearing themselves away from the TV every night and doing someone for their own future. And that is exactly why 95% of people are working for someone else while the other 5% own their own businesses and are wealthy. These are proven social security stats. The only way to fail in MA is to quit. It is a fabulous business and only getting better.
Anyone who would like to be mentored to make a 6-figure income, let me know and I will be happy to work with anyone serious.

To all of the people who are making claims that they are making “real” money through MA, its very simple state your names, and if you are listed in the magazine we will believe you, I am an accountant for a company that audits market america and I have the numbers for actually how much money is made by the distributors. Its not alot, yes there a few people who make money but the odds of all of those people posting on this website are less then winning the lottery. JR is a smart guy, he can stand infront of 20,000 people and say whatever he wants and everyone will believe him. Does anyone here who how much a bottle of OPC-3 costs MA ?, you would all be surprised at the margins.

@ MA Reality
The truth is that Market America is the most socialistic of all MLMs, thereby spreading out the wealth across all distributors, so that the ones at the top make less, and the ones at the bottom lose less. Very few people will make good money from MA, but there will be, all things being equal, more good money earners compared to other MLMs percentage-wise. That being said, MA’s prices are exorbitant, and it’s not going to be easy finding Preferred Customers who don’t mind being ripped off every month. Thus the vast majority of MA clients will be the Distributors themselves.
Those magazines you speak of flaunt wildly inaccurate income figures and are actually an accomplice in distorting the true income figures of their Distributors. If you want the truth, one must turn to data collected from tax preparers. It became known to the IRS that in the past millenium, MLM participants as a whole, not just MA, reported losses over 99 percent of the time. This seems to suggest that out of 100 MLM participants, it will take 99 losers to make one winner. This illustrates the extreme degree of leverage that’s placed on its participants. MA has slightly better statistics, but the MA winners end up not making as much.

I worked for Market America for four years in their global headquarters in N.C.. The company is a traditional MLM. and the same stuff applies to them as does with Amway and others. The big difference is that Market America treats their employees with no respect and verbally abuses them on a regular basis. I boss was These people are trailer trash gone mad. If they find this post, they will probably threaten you and try to make you remove it because they know it is true. Fear not I am posting this comment on every blog I can find, so that the truth will be known.
October 13, 2011
I have been approached by MA recently and decided to do some research into the company. Its so weird because the people that approach us keeping emphasizing we are not Amway. Now i know why. Their reps are drilled into thinking Amway is a pyramid scheme while theirs is not.
Personally for me I have been in MLM before, my father in law has been doing MLM for years and made good money on it . I have tried a number but found that for this business to work you do need to put in alot of time like all business
For those who are thinking into joining MA, please dont be mislead into thinking its not an MLM. The terms may be different but the way it works its the same
Now the truth : MLM is not a get rich scheme. Technically those in business are just sales man making commission from products and recruiting people to do it.
Every business you can make money, but you need to put in hard work. and No … you wont make big money overnight. It takes time
And the world retire early… that is not true.. either. My concept of retirement is to not work and enjoy life. Yet many times my diamond upline have to attend seminars, recruit people and still have to work to get the income..
So.. its still a job but with more flexibility
