Aggressive MLM Recruiting vs. Pushy MLM Recruiting
Seriously, there is a difference between an Aggressive MLM Recruiter and a Pushy MLM Marketer. And unless you’ve marketed both ways chances are you don’t even know the difference. So here’s the difference in a nutshell.
An Aggressive MLM Recruiter is someone who works pretty hard each day using Attraction Marketing to draw people to their website. They are constantly tweeking their Lead Capture Pages, adding content to their blogs and website, Twittering, Posting on Facebook and meeting new people through the social media.
But for the most part they spend all their time getting their MLM Leads on Autopilot and never personally approach people about joining their company. They let people come to them. This doesn’t mean that they are necessarily afraid of rejection, it just means that these Recruiters choose to draw people to them verses pushing themselves on others.
My definition of a Pushy Marketer is someone who personally goes after people to join their MLM Program. While there is nothing wrong with this approach in the abstract, it wastes a lot of your time resources and unless you have a solid sales background you probably won’t pick up anyone of high caliber to join your program.
The other issue with Pushy Recruiting is it can tend to offend some (but not all) people. You know the type. You open your email one morning last week and get something like this:
– start personal solicitation –
Hello David,
I notice you’re trying to earn a full time income in Network Marketing. I have this great company called Biggest Baddest MLM that just launched last week. I was hoping you could take a look at it and let me know what you think. Here’s the link:
— finish personal solicitation –
Now I know people have joined MLM Programs here and there from an email like this, but these days this type of email is starting to become old school pretty quick. Lead Capture systems and Webinars will dominate the MLM Recruiting Frontier over the next decade.
Or worse yet you get a phone call. Your hands are gripping the phone so tight you think you’re gonna break it while he goes on and on about this company you just don’t wanna hear about. You really wanna get this pushy person off the phone ASAP. If you’re not the type that just hangs up, you may try to sell yourself off the phone. Personally I just hang up when I even get the hint someone is calling to pitch me.
And if you don’t think people can get lower, how about someone who fills out YOUR form. You call them back excited that you might have recruited a new Downline Member. Then they rudely cross you on their program. You soon realize that was their intention in the first place. Some people think it’s “OK” to do this. I personally think it’s unethical and out of bounds. No I don’t put them in the category of a Serial Killer or even a scammer, but I do think it’s out of bounds and is the highest level of pushy marketing there is.
That’s just not how I like to roll. If I wanna join a company I’ll do my research and contact who I feel through my research is most qualified to train and assist me in the program I’m joining. No one is gonna convince me to do anything I don’t feel comfortable with. End of story. And I recommend you follow this approach as well.
Personally I am a relatively Aggressive MLM Recruiter but not a Pushy Marketer at all. By this I mean my partner and myself draw almost 1000 unique visitors to our Network Marketing Blog every single day, and we work pretty hard to do this. And yes you’ll get occasional emails from us if you are on our Aweber Autoresponder Double Optin list, because you requested to be on it.
But you’ll never get a phone call from us begging you to join our program. And we will never track you down at the local mall or movie theater and beg you to attend a meeting. The only way you’ll join the MLM Company we’re associated with is if you want to, and go through a process we have carefully setup to ensure you are qualified to become part of the company we’re promoting and if you like the product of course.
If I need to earn money quicker I’ll just have to get a job until I build a large enough customer base to achieve my income goals without invading the privacy of others and by only sending confirmed emails to interested MLM Prospects and only speaking to people that gave their phone number to me first and asked me to call. I will never put myself on the line and risk damaging my reputation to try to con someone into something they might not be interested in or might not even be qualified for.
So in summary an Aggressive Recruiter is someone who works hard and builds an automated marketing system that attracts people to them willingly. A Pushy Marketer is in your face begging you to join their company. Personally pushy marketers tend to annoy me but aggressive marketers are okay. What are your thoughts?

Hi Brian/Jeff,
Couldn’t agree more with your article here. The misconception of mlm companies being hoakie or scams often come from the industry itself and lack of proper marketing taught.
The whole idea behind any marketing online or offline is to have people approach you. On their own terms. Let them ask you what or how you can help them.
